An increased number of American children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors have applied for the German citizenship stripped from their family members by the Nazis.

Imagine a visiting Hispanic leader advising parents living in the US to teach their kids Spanish first. He'd probably be run out of town. Turkey's Premier did something just like this during visit to Germany.

Germany's native minority groups, such as the Sorbs have reacted to calls for the German language to be enshrined in the constitution by demanding that their own languages be included.

President Obama is the fifth President since Ronald Reagan to proclaim German-American Day. He called on all Americans to learn more about the nation’s largest ethnic group and commemorate the many contributions they have made in building our country.
