The Klimahaus, or Climate House, in Bremerhaven opened on Thursday, with city planners hoping it will become an environmental tourist draw for the northern city.
The dramatically designed centre, which covers an area of more than 33,000 square feet, aims to inform in an entertaining fashion about the earth’s climate and the different forms it takes in various places around the globe.
It is split into four main areas, with ‘Travel’ taking the visitor through recreations of various climate zones, while ‘Elements’ offers hands-on experiments and demonstrations to show the power of fire, earth, water and air.
The ‘Perspectives’ area aims to show how the climate of the past and that of the present can affect what happens in the future, while the ‘Chances’ area demonstrates some of the things that can be done to try to slow down global warming.
Klimahaus is one of the main parts of the harbor area of Bremerhaven being reconstructed to try to revitalise the economically depressed city and attract visitors.
