Polish, German Presidents Favor Closer Ties

Polish President-elect Bronisław Komorowski greeted his first international visitor since the election, German President Christian Wulff, Tuesday morning.

The visit, arranged the day after the second-round of the presidential election, as results were still being counted, is of a personal nature, Sejm Marshal Grzegorz Schetyna said.

The presidents are expected to discuss Polish-German relations, especially their improvement, for the length of their terms, which started virtually simultaneously.

Indeed, Wulff was elected just a week before Mr Komorowski.
“I am convinced, that through trusting cooperation, we will deepen and further develop friendly relations between our countries,” Wulff wrote in a congratulatory letter to the Polish president-elect.

The two politicians have already shared breakfast at the Belweder Palace in Warsaw. Wulff also plans to meet with Polish PM Donald Tusk and government plenipotentiary for international dialogue, Władysław Bartoszewski.
