Anne Hathaway Sighted in Austrian Village

Hollywood superstar Anne Hathaway has been to Austria on a country getaway – and no one even knew she was here. Except the Vienna-based English-language newspaper Austrian Times.

The Times revealed that the actress, who was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award this year for her leading role in the drama Rachel Getting Married, spent three days back in December in the small Burgenland town of Güssing.

The star said she visited the quaint 4,000 resident town to relax between shooting films. It was Hathaway’s first visit to the country.

Hathaway, who rose to fame by starring in the 2006 blockbuster The Devil Wears Prada, accepted an invitation by Karl Draskovich, a count and one of the richest Austrians, and his wife Monika.

Draskovich knows Hathaway’s family from doing business in the United States.

Draskovich owns the local Opel store and his estate features thousands of hectares of forest all-over Austria and several valuable properties such as a hotel in Vienna’s posh first district.

The 86-year-old, a regular at Catholic Sunday mass in Güssing, is infamous for becoming more and more forgetful. Now and then, Draskovich turns up at the Opel shop to chat with staff – and asks most of them every time he goes there for their names and when they started working for him.

The count’s employees – a gardener and a few personal assistants – were banned from his impressive, remote villa located at the foot of the ancient Güssing castle ruins during the actress’ visit. Hathaway, 26, turned up with a personal security staff who stayed at the Aktiv Park, the town’s only hotel.

Hathaway is arguably the most prominent visitor in the town’s history.

Spartak Moscow and national team player Martin Stranzl, former Rapid Vienna defender Kurt Garger and snowboard talent Julia Dujmovits are the best-known personalities from Güssing.
