Austrian, German Hotels on Top Ten List

Three Austrian hotels have been named in a Top 10 ranking of winter sport hotels in Europe. A German hotel, the InterContinental in Berchtesgaden (photo), took top honors.

The Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol in Telfs, Tyrol, came in fifth in the listing released by online hotel listings platform Trivago, with the Theresia Gartenhotel in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Salzburg, in sixth and the Lanshaus zu Appesbach lakeside resort in Sankt Wolfgang, Upper Austria, in seventh.

Trivago – which compares hotel prices and facilities – brought together the ten most popular hotels in European winter sport areas among travellers so far this year. For Triago's website, click HERE.

More than 6,000 hotel ratings were considered for the listing.

Hotel Intercontinental in Berchtesgaden,Germany, topped the ranking, followed by Hotel Gardena Grödnerhof in Ortisei, Italy.
Coeur des Alpes Hotel in Zermatt, Switzerland, came in third.

The news comes after Austrian tourism officials said they were satisfied with bookings so far this winter.
People’s Party (ÖVP) Economy Minister Reinhold Mitterlehner, however, stressed last year he would be satisfied if the 2009/2010 holiday season ended with just "slightly negative overall turnover".
